A debt collection agency mistakenly placed a legal judgment on my credit report – help?

Tom G asked:

A debt collection agency mistakenly placed a legal judgment on my credit report. I have a son with the same name that used to live at the same address and the judgment properly belongs on his credit, not mine. What can I do to fix this?
What law(s) have they broken?
What is my best recourse or course of action at this point? Please do not tell me to contact an attorney, because I intend to, but right now I am just trying to educate myself on the matter.

Thanks!

Joe

I’ve heard about ppl who will “fix your credit score”, is this legit?

A few people I know have told me that they have a “legal” way to improve credit scores anywhere from 50-100 pts for around $500, and for around $3000 you can get a whole new credit report, and this is all legal and in a sort of “gray area”. I was wondering if anyone knew what this was exactly? how it’s done, and how this is possibly legal??? Thanks a bunch!
