How easy or hard is it to fix my credit?

mac m asked:

I had excellent credit and moved out of the country a few months ago. Today I get a letter from my credit card telling me my account was closed because I had a $62 bill that wasn’t paid. I looked up my credit report and found that it was reported to them February 10th. So, my credit got screwed up. Under Experian score for example it had a 0 for previous score and 682 for current score. I am wondering how bad this is and if it can be fixed. Should I even try to fix it? Is it going to get worse? Is it gradually going to get better like I’m starting from scratch? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Question about Charge-Off on credit report?

Elaine K asked:

I’m trying to figure out how to fix my credit, it’s so confusing!

Anyway, I’m making a payment to a collection agency for a Discover card, each month. I have great payment standing with the agency. On my credit report, it reads collection/chargeoff. Does that mean the chargeoff will stay on the report after I finish paying it off? If so, it really isn’t helping my credit is it? What can I do so when I pay it off it will affect my credit in the best way it can? Write a pay to delete letter? Will that work since I’m already making payments?

I’m so confused! :(
What would happen if I’d stop paying the collection agency, and focus on debts that aren’t charged off? If it is going to hurt my credit anyway, what is the harm?

Best way to fix credit and debt?

Rachel S asked:

I apologize this is going to be a long one.
Past May I lost my job and was not able to get unemployment. I abandoned my apartment since I was very honest and informed my landlord I don’t think they ever filed anything against me, haven’t seen anything on my credit report yet. Anyways I was well off in my job, had 4 credit cards, a car loan and a loan for my furniture set. All of these had never had a late payment, my credit score was at 720 something. Obviously afterwards everything except my car loan is now at least 180 days overdue, all but 2 of the cards are in collections. About $11,000 in debt and I owe my dad $3,000. I owe my dad $3,000 because he drove out and helped me move back across country with all of my stuff since I had no place to live. Well, I took a phlebotomy class and after 3 months of applying the only place that was offering me a job was back in my original state so I packed my car up and I am living rent free with my long time boyfriend who I had moved away from… I hope that wasn’t confusing. So I’m out where I began, all of my furniture that I owe $3500 on is 1000 miles away. I’m only making $1200 a month. I have $7500 in credit card debt. I’m trying to pay off this debt and I’m wondering the best way to go about this while keeping my credit score in mind. Since May it has dropped down to 516. I’ve thought about filing for bankruptcy but I think that would be a bigger scar on my credit. Also I think it’s a moral issue, I made this debt and it’s my responsibility. I’ve thought about trading in or selling my car, but even if I did I’d still be paying on it since it would resell for so much less. I’ve also thought about selling my furniture but I don’t think I would get that much money from it. It’s all in my parents basement not getting any use and I’d love to have it out here but from what I’ve found it costs a lot of money to transport it across the country. So does anyone have any advice?
The credit cards were cut up as soon as I lost my job, all of my extra money is going towards the debt. I am not spending on anything extra at all.

Wiping out debt, erasing it,not fixing credit reports,or scores?

danielmcgonagle asked:

This question is about erasing debt and not paying a dime.
I asked this question earlier but everyone seems to think I’m asking how to remove negative remarks on my report.

I am not asking that.

I am asking if these people that say you can erase debt, especially credit cards, lergally just by writing letters to the credit card companies

What I got a call on was someone telling me I could write letters to the credit card company and somehow get out of it. This company has an online presence, I found them on the Web,and it so tempting, yet so scammy. I wanted to recommend it to someone because it landed at my feet, and am doing the homework for them. These people are saying they have teleseminars, training calls, a reource site, and representatives to answer your questions, and all the form letters to mail out repeatedly. I remember the guy saying something to me like, you can remove all CC debt because of some sort of signature loophole or something

how can i clear my credit history?

ilovevespas asked:

my fico score is a whopping 467. I don’t have much debt… less than $8500 and only 12 accounts. 6 good accounts, 5 bad accounts and one inaccuracy that isn’t my debt. Anyway, my bad accounts weren’t willing to work with me when I got laid off of my job so I had to let them go deliquent and they burned me bad with penalties and negative comments on my credit report. I just want my whole history cleared. I’m in a situation now where I really need decent credit and I’m sure a lot of people can relate so if anyone knows how I can go about doing this then let me know. I know time will fix your credit report but I don’t have that long to wait. Some of my creditors aren’t going to clear my accounts until 2013! help? anyone?

feel free to email me if you know some backdoor suggestions that you dont want to advertise online.

Best way to fix credit?

Johnny5 asked:

Based on my credit report, it appears as if I have established credit six years ago, and have a few minor blemishes. However, 2 of the three problems were paid in full, and are closed accounts, but still appear. One was as a result of missing two payments with best buy, the other was a medical bill that was sent to collection. Would it help to write to these people? Credit is really important to me. I truly believe it says something about a persons character. Some day I hope to buy a house, but most importantly, I am looking to buy a car in the next few months, and its important that I have the best credit possible. Thanks. Also, I have five credit cards, YES 5, very stupid on my part, but I plan to pay them off in full before the new year. Should I keep them open though?

I went through a nasty divorce and now have a lousy credit score. Any good info on how I can fix this?

Marieella J asked:

I currently can’t even get a credit card and would like to be approved for financing a home one day. I tried getting my credit report but they wanted exact info on loans, etc that I had when I was married. I don’t have that information and will never be able to obtain it. Any advice is appreciated.

Fixing My Credit Report, Would It Be Better To Pay Off The Smaller Payments Or The Bigger Ones?

Tara $ asked:

Between 2007-2009 I got sick while homeless. There are a few hospital bills I am only now maybe able to repay.
Ranging from $60 – $2,000
I thought I should do the smaller ones first, as I can… But then was told the bigger ones will hold more wieght on my credit, so I should make payments on those.
Help?
Also, my hubby has bad credit (stupid boy + manipulative mother = He’s got the debt)… He is the head of household, should we focus on his credit first? We normally sign things together
Actually, we both view me as head of household because I am the one that keeps things together…. But he has the job, so everything we do he is put as “Head of Household”.

What to do about credit cards I got when I was 16, and how to pay them off to better my credit card score?

svtcobranos asked:

When I was 16, I was a foolish kid and got tons of credit cards that I never paid off. Now that I am 20, and have a real job and am trying to get a house, I see that severly affected me. I ran a credit report on myself today, and my credit score is 550, and I have only $3000 in total debt, but around 10 creditors. They all have sent my debt to collections, and I threw all the information away when I was a kid. Now that I am older and want to fix my credit, how should I go about doing it? Are any of the credit cards invalid since I got them before I was 18?
