What steps do I take to fix my bad credit?

Niecey asked:

I am 22 years old. My mother opened two credit cards in my name when I was 18. I have already paid the balance on one of the cards. The other is still on my credit report with a $1300 balance. I have a medical bill on my report for over $6000 from when I had no medical insurance and I had a surgery. I also have over $38,000 in school loans from college that I have to start paying in January. I guess when I start paying them it will increase my credit history as long as I pay them on time. I can’t get any credit cards because of my terrible credit score (which is 568). I don’t have anything in my name that is helping me improve my credit history. I have an apartment and a few utility bills in my name but other than that, I have nothing. I desperately want to fix my credit. How can I do this? How long will it take for my credit score to improve? What steps do I take? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

How do I get a collections account removed from my credit report? Is it even possible?

puckdance35 asked:

I got a concussion playing hockey for my university in 2006. I was covered under 4 different health insurance companies. I was under my dad’s TriCare, my Mom’s Cigna, the University athletics, and USA Hockey. I used my dad’s TriCare and paid the $10 deductible but the radiological people screwed something up. I never once received a bill.

Then in 2009 I looked at my credit report and it had a bill in collections from the radiological people. Then I deployed to Iraq and haven’t been able to fix it. I just got back.

What should I do? I don’t want it on my credit report, and I don’t want to pay for something I should have never been charged. If I pay it will it fix my credit or will it stay on there?

Help with credit? I have some bills that i am going to start paying on in order to fix credit?

I LOVE MY BEAUTIFUL MONSTER asked:

I need to know what shows up on your credit report?
When i as 18 i was an idiot and got a place with my best friend and i got the cable and electric in my name and i didn’t pay the last months bills for the last month we lived there. I also have 2 medical bills and i owe National City Bank 150. in overdraft fees from three years ago. Three years ago i got a car which was from a buy here pay here and they said they didn’t mess with credit unless i needed a referral from them, but i never paid the last 400 because the car broke down on me before i had it for a year, i paid over 3000 on it though like an idiot so i didn’t knowif that would appear or not. I am going to call tomorrow and start making payment plans with the four biggest places i owe, i am doing this because i have a daughter and i love her and want to have a stable house for her to live in by the time she is in school..
Is there anything i can do to help get myself out of this mess after i pay the places off? What can i do to build credit?
Also do you have any idea how much it will cost me to get a verizon wireless phone in my name? Like down payment wise? In all i think i am in debt $ 500- $700 dollars, and i happened to forget that i got into a wreck w/o insurance two years ago and owe $2600 i go to court on the 27th for it, is there any way to get that amount lowered?
I do need a cell phone due to the fact i am going back to work when my daughter is 10 weeks, thank you. Most people i know are in far worse debt than me and have NO expectations of clearing it. I am only 22, so why be rude and not answer any of my questions?!?
Thanks to the first two answers!!!!:)

Can You Remove A Bankruptcy From Your Credit Report?

Ann Richter asked:

When a bankruptcy appears on your credit report, you feel as if you have to get used to being denied credit or a loan because of it. You have been told that this information will stay on your credit report for a maximum of seven years, too. For a while now, you have been interested in doing some type of credit repair. But, you have heard from friends that doing anything like this after a bankruptcy is difficult to do. You’d like to remove the bankruptcy from your credit report so that you can have a clean credit record, but you just aren’t sure how to go about how to do this.

You know that it’s not just the gas companies and department stores that are checking your credit when you apply for an account with them. When you applied for a new job last month, you were turned down because of your credit record. You’ve been told that the insurance company you use will be checking into your credit file when the time comes for you to renew your car insurance. Once they see that bankruptcy on your record, you are afraid that you will be hit with a huge rate increase.

It’s Not Always Your Fault

It’s enough to make you feel like a failure, and you’re not alone. Almost everyone who has been forced to file for bankruptcy feels this way, too. For some reason, people in the United States seem to look down on those who have bankruptcy on their record, and this just is not fair. You had no control over those medical treatments you had to go through after your car accident. You could not help that you missed so much work that you got way behind on your bills. And, neither could many other Americans suffering from the same problems as you.

You can’t even get a job anymore without having to answer questions about whether or not you have ever filed for bankruptcy. It’s listed right there on the job application, and you are required to fill out that section, too. What’s a person to do? People have told you that it isn’t possible to remove such a stigma as bankruptcy from your report.

Did you know that it is the law that you can dispute an item on your credit report that is wrong or listed in error? The credit bureau has to prove that the information contained in your file is true. You need to be the one who makes sure that the information in your credit file is accurate and up to date. Since a bankruptcy stays on your credit file for so many years, you should start trying to up your credit score so your credit can be restored as soon as is possible under the circumstances.
